Fees & Royalties

Castlegreen Publishing is a not for profit organisation. Its purpose is to improve the quality of self-published works by sharing knowledge and experience and to make it easier for people to produce good quality written work for publication. As such fees are set at a level to cover costs and allow a margin of error. Any year end surplus will be returned to contributors (whether authors, editors, proof readers, cover artists or administrators that have enabled the publishing of titles).

Fees

There are no up front fees to be paid by authors or other contributors.

Where there is a need to buy in additional expertise from freelance operators they will be given a choice of being paid the Going Rate for the job in hand or taking a share of royalties (as listed below). In the former case the royalty share due will be added to the admin share and the freelance contractor will be paid from the working capital.

Royalties

Where people publish through Castlegreen Publishing they will share the resulting income between those contributing to the success of the title. Typically at least half of the net payment to Castlegreen Publishing from retailers will be paid to the author within 30 days of it being cleared.

Royalties are awarded on the following scale:

Contributor First Run1) Further runs
Author 50% 75%
Editor 15% 5%
Proof reader 10% 2.5%
Cover artist 10% 2.5%
Admin2) 15% 15%

1) either the first 12 months from the date of initial publication or the first 5,000 copies sold, whichever takes longer to expire
2) this covers things like ISBNs, website hosting, filing accounts etc. and any surplus over the operating costs is returned to contributors in proportion to total sales income of their titles
